The most widespread butterflies in the world, the painted lady migrates similarly to the monarch butterfly. However they don't follow seasonal patterns like the monarch, but travel when they are ready to migrate. They may migrate to North Africa to Europe. These butterflies use the sun and the stars as their natural compass to navigate their destination, although entomologists have difficulty tracking their migration patterns because they fly above the clouds.

Like all butterflies, the museum displays all live stages of the painted lady butterfly. We only get them as caterpillars since their diet is relatively easy to provide.
